The Association of Latvian Lutheran Women Theologians (LLSTA) congratulates Mag. Theol. Kristīna Ēce, a doctoral candidate at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Latvia, on a very successful piece of research that has won the research competition announced by LLSTA! The title of the research (essay) is “The Leipzig and Liebenzell Missions: The Ministry of Hildegard Prozell and Lilija Otīlija Grīviņa.” The research describes the missionary work of two women of Latvian origin in the Far East – in China and India. Both women fearlessly set out on missionary work in the 19th century, at a time when the question of ordaining women was not only off the agenda of congregations, but women’s civil and political rights were severely restricted throughout the world, which created a risk for any woman travelling to an unfamiliar and distant land.
Part of Kristīna Ēce’s research has already been published in the “Svētdienas Rīts” publication. This research will also be published in the next issue of the journal “Ceļš”.
The research can be read on our website – “The Leipzig and Liebenzell Missions: The Ministry of Hildegard Prozell and Lilija Otīlija Grīviņa”
