About us

The goals and methods of operation of the Latvian Lutheran Women Theologians Association are:

E

to support the professional activity of women theologians in churches, including the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia, and in society, and to promote their further professional growth. In pursuing its goal, the Association is grounded in the understanding of Christian ministry set out in the Lima Document; to organise educational events (seminars, conferences, Bible studies, discussions, etc.) both within the Association and for the wider public. To carry out this task, the Association cooperates with theological colleges and other educational institutions both in Latvia and abroad;

E

To inform society about the work of the Association and the role of women in the church. To carry out this task, the Association cooperates with the mass media and other public organisations; to cooperate with various denominations, ecumenical movements and other public organisations around the world, to participate in the events they organise and to maintain a regular exchange of information; to cooperate with the Lutheran World Federation, the World Council of Churches and other ecumenical partners;

E

to promote understanding of issues of women’s rights and gender equality in the church and in society as a whole.

The Latvian Lutheran Women Theologians Association fosters understanding in the church and in society as a whole, with the aim of renewing the discussion about the ordination of women. We believe that in Jesus Christ there is neither male nor female. According to the gospel, the one whom God has called may serve.

Manifesto

Created in the likeness of God, we work together to grow in faith and wisdom.
Called into the discipleship of Jesus Christ, we support one another in our various callings and forms of ministry.
Inspired by the Holy Spirit, we use our talents and share our experience, advocating for the ordination of women to spiritual offices and for discussion of questions of gender justice in the Church and society.
