The Association of Latvian Lutheran Women Theologians announces a competition for the development of a competitive research paper (essay) on questions of gender equality, corresponding to one of the themes described below.
The research themes focus on the place and role of women in the church and society, and allow for a diversity of methods in the in-depth presentation of the respective theme.
The winners of the research competition will receive a financial award (gross) of EUR 350 or EUR 500.
Research themes:
1. Women and plagues: in history and today.
2. Women and war: in history and today.
3. Women and the law: in history and today.
An application will be considered successful if it analyzes historical documents and developments, compares models, and examines the role of education and educated women in Latvian history – on manor estates, in the Baltic German period, during the wars, in the interwar period, during the Soviet Union era, and during the period of Latvian state independence. Themes that analyze questions about the role of women during the pandemic and during warfare in the present day are also welcome.
N.B. A competition participant is entitled to propose another topical theme, justifying their choice by the relevance of the theme, as well as defining the methods that will be used in the analysis of the particular question.
Languages for submitting research: English and Latvian.
The length of the research must be no fewer than 5,000 and no more than 8,000 words, including references and notes.
- 9 March 2022 – publication of the competition on the website https://sieviesuordinacija.lv and on Facebook.
- 1 May 2022 – deadline for submitting research summaries (send to [email protected]) marked “For the research competition.”
- 15 May 2022 – selection of 6 summaries, results announced individually by e-mail.
- 20 July 2022 – submission of research.
- 10 August 2022 – announcement of results.
