On 18 January this year, the ordination of the Latvian-born theologian and artist Urzula Glienecke into the ministry of word and sacrament will take place, serving as associate chaplain at the University of Edinburgh’s Greyfriars congregation.
Urzula Glienecke was born in Latvia. She has studied and worked in Latvia, Norway, Germany, Spain, Scotland, and Ireland. In Latvia, Urzula studied theology. In 2011, in Ireland, she earned a doctoral degree in Mission Theology with an emphasis on interreligious understanding and pastoral psychology. Scotland is Urzula’s current place of life and ministry. Urzula began assisting in the work of the University of Edinburgh’s chaplain at the beginning of 2021. At last the time has come that Urzula has awaited for more than 30 years, that she has dreamed of ever since she began her theology studies in Latvia. She will finally be ordained to the office of chaplain, with the right to carry out the ministry of Word and Sacrament.
The Association of Latvian Lutheran Women Theologians sincerely rejoices for Urzula and congratulates her on her ordination day, wishing her God’s guidance in every step, the wisdom of the Holy Spirit in every piece of counsel given, the presence of Jesus Christ in every sermon and ministry of Holy Communion, and the protection of God the Father for her and her loved ones.
We invite you to follow Urzula’s ordination and installation into office online via YouTube. The ordination will take place on 18 January. The ordination video will also be available online later.
