The Latvian Association of Lutheran Women Theologians announces a competition for the development of a competitive piece of research (a paper) on gender equality issues that corresponds to one of the topics described below.
The research topics focus on the place and role of women in the church and society, and allow for a diversity of methods in the in-depth treatment of the respective topic. The winners of the research competition will receive a financial reward (gross) of EUR 350,- or EUR 500,-.
Research topics:
1. The Istanbul Convention: the experience of the countries that have ratified it. What would change in Latvia as a result of ratifying the Convention?
2. The contribution of women to medieval mysticism.
3. The spiritual ministry in the Lutheran tradition and the diversity of its understanding. The woman as pastor.
4. Social networks and the self-esteem, psychological and spiritual health of girls and young women.
5. Women in Latvian churches: insights and analyses from the psychology of religion.
6. The axioms of the leadership of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia – if we allow women pastors, then gay marriage will follow – an analysis.
7. The issue of gender equality in the Latvian mass media over the past 10 years. A sociological assessment.
8. Women deacons in the congregations founded by Paul and in early Christianity.
9. The “third wave” of feminism in the world and in Latvia.
N.B. A competition participant is entitled to propose another topical subject, justifying their choice with the topicality of the subject, as well as defining the methods that will be used in the analysis of the particular question.
Languages for submitting the research: English and Latvian.
The length of the research must be no fewer than 5,000 and no more than 8,000 words, including references and notes.
