“Women ask” (a poem by Andreas Knapp, translated by Lilija Tenhāgena)

Women ask

if a woman
brought the WORD into the world
why then should women
not also proclaim the word from the pulpit

if a woman
was praised for listening
why then should women
not also teach what they have heard

if a woman
kissed jesus’ feet why then should women
not also kiss the altar

if a woman
anointed christ’s body with oil
why then should women
not also carry out the ministry of anointing

if a woman
by speaking of bread changed jesus’ mind why then should women
not also speak the words in the miracle of the transformation of bread

if a woman
begged from jesus vessels full of wine why then should women
not also speak the blessing over the cup of wine

if a woman
was sent as an apostle before the disciples why then should women
not also be called into the apostolic succession
