On 25 March the Lutheran World Federation joined Pope Francis’s call for a prayer of all Christians

28. Mar, 2020

The General Secretary of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), Rev. Dr Martin Junge, responded to Pope Francis’s call for a worldwide Christian recitation of the Lord’s Prayer, which took place on Wednesday, 25 March.

“Yesterday Pope Francis invited church leaders and the leaders of every Christian community, together with all Christians, to call upon the Almighty, All-Powerful God by praying the ‘Our Father’ prayer on 25 March around midday Rome time, or around midday according to the time zone in which each person is located, or at any other possible time,” writes Cardinal Koch, President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.

As a church, we can no longer meet in one place, but by praying the prayer that Christ taught us, we are united even in spite of long distances and time. Together in prayer we call upon God’s grace and power to heal, and we pray for the end of this pandemic.

The LWF General Secretary joined the call to prayer, which embraced all Christians and all congregations around the world. This is a powerful ecumenical initiative.

“The ongoing pandemic will be overcome only through the concentrated efforts of people and nations; we must pray and work together,” said General Secretary Junge.
