Bishop emerita Jāna Jēruma-Grīnberga preaches at the Synod of the North German Evangelical Lutheran Church

Bishop emerita Jāna Jēruma-Grīnberga delivers the sermon at the opening of the Synod of the North German Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lübeck Cathedral.

We inform you that from 27 to 29 September the Synod of the North German Evangelical Lutheran Church took place in Lübeck. On the first day of the Synod the election of the regional bishop took place. Already in the first round of voting, the current bishop of the Thuringia region, Kristina Kühnbaum-Schmidt, was elected as the new regional bishop of the North German Evangelical Lutheran Church, having obtained 90 votes (out of the 79 votes required).

Taking part in the Synod with the status of a special guest was bishop emerita Jāna Jēruma-Grīnberga, who delivered the sermon at the opening service of the Synod in Lübeck Cathedral. 

Bishop emerita Jāna Jēruma-Grīnberga serves as chaplain at the Anglican Church of St. Saviour in Riga, Latvia. Jāna Jēruma-Grīnberga is also an active member of the Latvian Lutheran Association of Women Theologians and, through her ministry, encourages Lutheran women in Latvia to continue to address society and the church about the restoration of women’s ordination.
