“A powerful opportunity to rededicate ourselves to God’s mission in the world”
The report of the Twelfth Assembly of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) has been published and is available both for download and in printed format. The Assembly took place in 2017 from 10 to 17 May in Windhoek, Namibia. The main theme of the report is about liberation in God’s grace, and the report includes the Assembly message, as well as presentations, public statements and resolutions.
The theme of the Twelfth LWF Assembly was “Liberated by God’s Grace”, which was explored further with the help of three sub-themes: “Salvation – not for sale”, “Human beings – not for sale” and “Creation – not for sale”. The report contains the address by the keynote speaker, the physician Dr. Denis Mukwege, in which he connected the theme of the Assembly with the problems of sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as introductions to the sub-themes.
“As I reread the report, pleasant memories come to my mind of the many beautiful moments that I experienced in Namibia,” says the LWF General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Martin Junge. “The Assembly provided a powerful opportunity to rededicate ourselves to God’s mission in the world and to do so together as one communion of churches.”
The message of the Assembly and the resolutions adopted at it were incorporated into the strategy development plan, the LWF General Secretary added. “May this report serve us as a renewed encouragement for the message that we have already heard, when we experienced the beauty and power that the gathering of the communion in Windhoek provided.”
“The Assembly provided a powerful opportunity to rededicate ourselves to God’s mission in the world and to do so together as one communion of churches,” LWF General Secretary Dr. Martin Junge.
