The Reverend Kay Goldsworthy has been elected Archbishop of Perth* in Australia. Goldsworthy is the first woman to hold such a position in the Anglican Church of Australia. In 2008, Kay Goldsworthy was consecrated as Australia’s first woman bishop, and since 2015 she has served as Bishop of Gippsland in Victoria.
The administrator of the Anglican Diocese of Perth, the Reverend Kate Wilmot, warmly welcomed the election of Kay Goldsworthy, praising the bishop’s dedication [to her calling] and her significant experience:
“Bishop Kay was one of the first women to be ordained as a priest at St George’s Cathedral in 1992, and she has a wealth of diocesan, national and international experience, as well as practical experience as a standing member of the General Synod and of the international Anglican Consultative Council. The Archbishop-elect is well known in Perth and has shown outstanding leadership and hospitality throughout the Perth community. We look forward with joy to welcoming Bishop Kay and her husband Geoffrey James back to the Perth community.”
The election of Bishop Kay Goldsworthy as Archbishop concludes an eight-month-long selection process in the church, after the previous archbishop, Roger Herft, completed his term last December. The installation of the Archbishop will take place in February at St George’s Cathedral in Perth, Australia.
