On 31 May of this year, the Synod of the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church Abroad and the solemn worship service dedicated to the Synod took place in Riga.

The worship service, which took place at the Church of the Holy Saviour, the Anglican church in Riga, was attended by LELBĀL archbishop Lauma Zušēvica (USA), dean Ieva Graufelde (Sweden), bishop emerita Jāna Jēruma-Grīnberga (Great Britain/Latvia), the head of the LELBA administration, dean Gunārs Lazdiņš (USA) and dean Kārlis Žols (Latvia). The worship service was also attended, in vestments, by other LELBĀL clergy from various countries, as well as LELB pastor Sarmīte Fišere, evangelist and chaplain Rudīte Losāne, and LELB archbishop Jānis Vanags.

At the LELBĀL Synod meeting, which took place after the worship service, it was decided to establish the Latvian region of the LELBĀL and to work towards obtaining legal status for the LELBĀL in Latvia.
