The ordination of a woman pastor in Latvia

On 9 February 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Riga, 13 Akas Street, the ordination of Riga Evangelical Congregation (LELBĀL) deaconess Mag. Theol. Ieva Puriņa into the office of pastor will take place.

Deaconess Ieva Puriņa (née Kļaviņa) gained practical experience serving from 2005 to 2007 in the Belgian Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Congregation (LELBĀL) and in the Riga Evangelical Congregation since its founding in 2009, substituting for the congregation’s pastor, and she will continue to serve in the Riga Evangelical Congregation. Puriņa is actively involved in the Association of Latvian Lutheran Women Theologians, and in 2013 she represented it and LELBĀL at a conference organized by the Lutheran World Federation on the contribution of women to the Reformation movement and on questions of gender justice in church structures and in wider society today.
