On Monday, 14 July 2014, the General Synod of the Church of England voted, by a fairly substantial majority “in favour”, for the right of women to be ordained to the office of bishop in the Anglican church.
The ordination of women to the office of pastor in the Anglican church took place 20 years ago, yet even in 2012 the General Synod voted “against” women in the office of bishop. In 2012, the House of Bishops and the clergy voted “in favour” of women, yet the house represented by the laity was an obstacle to amending the legislation. It should be added that at that time the representatives of the House of Laity largely ignored the ongoing vote, as a result of which only six persons took part in the vote.
