The Synod of the Anglican Church approves a law on electing women to the office of bishop

18. Nov, 2014

From 17–19 November this year, the Synod of the Anglican Church is taking place in London.

Already on the first day of the Synod, the majority of those present voted to make amendments to the existing legislation of the Anglican Church in order to secure the right of women to be elected to the office of bishop. Discussions and debates about the role of women at the highest level of Church governance went on for almost 40 years, despite the fact that the Anglican Church began to ordain women as priests as early as 1992.

The Archbishop of Canterbury reveals that the first woman bishop in the Anglican Church could be ordained as early as around Christmas.
