A brief book review

Apostolic Women, Apostolic Authority: Transfiguring Leadership in Today’s Church. 2010.*

(“Apostolic Women, Apostolic Authority: Transfiguring Leadership in Today’s Church”).

The aforementioned book is part of the book series “Canterbury Studies in Anglicanism”.

As Bishop Barbara Harris writes, this book, in the form of essays, offers a well-grounded and convincing argument that women make a special contribution to the ministry of oversight. The authors share both their positive and negative experiences in congregations, as well as writing about the realities of our age. The book “Apostolic Women, Apostolic Authority” examines the biblical, theological and ecclesial arguments that affirm the appointment of women to offices of oversight. Likewise, individual essays in the book are devoted to describing what qualities, skills, experience and preparation the women of the future in leadership positions in congregations should possess.

The book is structured into four large parts:

1. Scripture and tradition.

2. Leadership and ecclesial authority.

3. Facing change.

4. Features of the future.

You can also briefly get acquainted with the content of the book on the “google books” website.

* Considering that it was published almost five years ago, it is possible that some of the essays in the book that express hopes for women to be confirmed in the office of bishop can be regarded as prophetic and fulfilled, because, as is known, at the end of 2014 the leadership of the Anglican Church voted that women in the Anglican Church will also be able to aspire to episcopal offices. Moreover, already in January 2015 the Anglican Church ordained its first woman bishop – Libby Lane.
