An exhibition (currently still being prepared) dedicated to the Moravian Brethren movement, or the Herrnhuters, in Latvia will soon be opened at the National Library of Latvia.
Manuscripts in the Latvian language from the 18th and 19th centuries will be put on display, among them both original writings and transcripts – translations from German.
One of these manuscripts is a text by Pēteris Baidiņš (1835) entitled “Of Those First People Adam and Eve”. This manuscript gives an original account of the first people’s encounter with Satan, life on earth, Eve’s first experience of childbirth, and the raising of children.
In the fragment included below, we read the following interesting text about raising children:
“and to her [Eve] was born Cain, and then the angel Michael came and taught her how to raise children…”
