Ieva Puriņa, pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia Abroad, and Aļesja Lavrinoviča, editor of the website of the Latvian Lutheran Women Theologians’ Association, will participate in a conference organized by German women theologians, which will take place from 4 to 7 February this year in Goslar, Germany.
The conference is at the same time the annual meeting of German women theologians and a session of the general assembly, to which representatives of the Latvian Lutheran Women Theologians’ Association were also invited. The conference will also feature a lecture on the status quo and future of the Reformation, delivered by Cornelia Richter, professor of systematic theology at the Faculty of Protestant Theology of the University of Bonn. The lecture is titled “Ecclesia semper reformanda – where should we go?”.
German women theologians have for several years shown interest in and support for the question of women’s ordination in Latvia. LLSTA representatives will report on the situation in Latvia following the 2016 event in the Evangelical Lutheran Church, which at its 2016 Synod decided to ban the ordination of women.
