A message of mourning

30. Jul, 2021

We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Marika Vidiņa as we accompany her into eternity!

Marika was one of the first women who, in the early 1990s, began theology studies at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Latvia. While still a student, Marika served in the Bolderāja congregation and was consecrated as a deacon. She was actively involved in the founding and development of LLSTA.

In the early 1990s, together with Austra Rāviņa, she travelled to India to make a documentary film about the missionary Anna Irbe.  Over the past two years, Marika Vidiņa was actively involved in reconstructing the historical facts of the church’s renewal, in order to help create a documentary film about the place of women in the church. Marika was always accommodating, ready to help and support! Endowed with the deep wisdom of an observer and a charming sense of humour!

Marika Vidiņa was also a patron of the Ad Verbum scholarship at the University of Latvia. The scholarship was awarded to young, promising researchers in theology,  pedagogy, psychology and the arts.

The funeral will take place on Thursday at 2:00 p.m., proceeding from Torņakalns Church to Ziepniekkalns Cemetery.
