Dace Balode is a a Professor of Biblical Theology at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Latvia and since 2014 – the Dean of the Faculty of Theology. On May 15, 2019 Dace Balode has been re-elected to the office of the Dean.
Prof. Dr. Dace Balode studied theology at the faculties of theology of the universities of Latvia, Basel and Bern, collaborating with the Swiss scholar of the New Testament, Professor Ulrich Luz. Dace Balode has a doctoral degree from the Faculty of Theology of the University of Tartu. Since 2000, she has been working at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Latvia, currently also being the Dean of that faculty.
Her academic interests cover Biblical theology and text interpretation theories and history, as well as the role of women in the Christian tradition. Dace Balode has publications in these areas, including the monograph Gottesdienst in Korinth (Worship at Corinth, 2011) – a study in the origins of Christian worship. In addition, Dace Balode is a member of the European Society of Women in Theological Research, and she is a Lutheran.
