“Being a woman: in prison and in the church” – a TVNET interview with Rudīte Losāne

28. Dec, 2017

“She is one of the ten evangelists of Latvia’s Lutheran church – a woman with leadership qualities whom, like others, the Church Synod has barred from becoming a pastor. And yet she IS a pastor – de facto. To accept what is different, to allow another simply to be. Such is the New Year’s resolution and the wish for us all from Rudīte Losāne – chair of the Latvian Lutheran Women Theologians’ Association, chaplain of the Iļģuciems women’s prison, and poet.

A slender, energetic dark-haired woman who likes modern technology and driving a car. She has spent the morning hours at the swimming pool, and instead of the lift she chooses to take the stairs while her wristwatch counts her steps. You have to take care of your body, she throws out with a laugh. In a word, a very modern lady. For 17 years now Rudīte has been the chaplain of the Iļģuciems women’s prison. Instead of the word «I work» she uses «I serve».”
