 John the Baptist came in the wilderness, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
And there went out to him all the land of Judea, and all the people of Jerusalem; and they were baptised by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
And John was clothed in camel’s hair garments and a leather belt around his loins, and he ate locusts and wild honey, and preached, saying:

“There comes after me one mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I have baptised you with water, but He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit.”
