Do you know how hard it is to hold
The bird – the soul in the time of the dead
If you do not call the quiet guests inside
They will wander uninvited about the yard
But outside beneath the apple tree a hare lies
With eyes open or shut – find that out for yourself
Beneath the other apple trees the mist lies
And above, God’s all-seeing eye.
I will tell you nothing more
If you fear the guests who return in the autumns
If in every window you see a cross
Open the window – a path in and out
