First female bishop ordained in Ireland

The Reverend Pat Storey was consecrated as the first female bishop of the Anglican Church of Ireland in two Irish dioceses: Meath and Kildare.

Pat Storey is married to the Reverend Earl Storey and is the mother of two adult children. She studied French and English, later theology, and in 1997 was ordained a deacon, and as early as 1998 – a priest in the Anglican Church. Since 2004 she has served as a minister in St Augustine’s parish in the Derry area of Northern Ireland.

The consecration took place in Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin.

The bishop’s husband, the Reverend Earl Storey, read the first reading from the Old Testament at the consecration service.
