Pre-election season in the Lutheran Church of Sweden!
Next year, on June 14, 2014, the current archbishop of the Church of Sweden, Anders Wejryd, will retire. And right now in Sweden the selection and election of a possible archbishop candidate is taking place.
In the first round of balloting, 16 candidates for the office of archbishop took part. According to the election rules of the Church of Sweden, at least 5 candidates who have received more than 5% of the votes must advance to the runoff round.
The archbishop candidate Antje Jackelén, bishop of the Diocese of Lund, received 51% of all the votes. At this moment the distribution of votes is as follows:
1) Bishop Antje Jackelén, Diocese of Lund, 51 %
2) Bishop Ragnar Persenius, Diocese of Uppsala, 29 %
3) Church secretary Cristina Grenholm, Uppsala Church Chancery, 11 %
4) Dean Johan Dalman, Strängnäs, 4 percent
5) Bishop Per Eckerdal, Diocese of Gothenburg, 3 %
