An Expression of the Vitality of the Lutheran World Federation’s Communion Relationships

     26.04.2014.

LWF General Secretary Rev. Martin Junge, accompanied by the Bishop of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria, Dr. Musa P. Filibus, met with the Executive Council of the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The visit to the EECMY is the second of three following the LWF Council decision in June 2013. The Council asked the LWF Office for the Communion to offer a process of accompaniment to three LWF member churches affected by a rupture over questions of family, marriage and sexuality.
“We know from everyday life: in the context of disagreement among family members, the role and relationships of the wider family circle are extremely important,” said Rev. Junge. “Our accompaniment visit to the EECMY is an expression of the vitality of the LWF’s communion relationships. By their very nature, they are caring and responsive, as well as supportive and transformative.”
In February, the LWF visited the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. An accompaniment visit is also planned to the Church of Sweden in the coming month. The LWF Office for the Communion will submit a report on the accompaniment process to the LWF Council this June.
