A historic event in the Anglican Church today – the first woman bishop is consecrated.

26. Jan, 2015

On Monday, 26 January, the first woman bishop was consecrated in the Anglican Church.

This is a historic event in the Anglican Church, in which the debates over the ordination of women to the highest church offices have gone on for decades. The Anglican Church began ordaining women to the priesthood more than 20 years ago, yet the office of bishop was available exclusively to men.

The consecration of Libby Lane (48) on 26 January 2015 took place in York Minster and drew more than 1,000 attendees, among whom were more than a hundred bishops. Notably, Libby Lane’s husband is also a priest; moreover, the Lane couple were one of the few cases where husband and wife were ordained Anglican priests on one and the same day.

We offer for your attention  the chance to watch a video about the Anglican Church’s first woman bishop.
